For over 40 years Habitat for Humanity has built over 3 million homes across the country. Caroline Habitat continues that legacy by partnering with individuals and families in our community making no more than 60% of the area medium income making homeownership not only a reality but affordable. Our partnership with a family or an individual is to build and sell an energy efficient home with age in pace features at COST using the USDA Mutual Self-Help method. Partner families are required to contribute 20-30 sweat equity hours per week during construction. Buyers use the USDA 502 Direct Home loan that can offer interest rates as low as 1% with qualifying subsidy. Buyers must also compete VHDA Homebuyer education course.
Currently Caroline Habitat is seeking applicants for our next round of Self-help Builds. The first step in participating in the program is to attend one of our many Home buyer Interest Presentations . If you are not able to attend a group interest presentation a one on one presentation can be scheduled. Applicants must qualify for the USDA 502 Direct Home Loan to participate.
